Beresfield RSL Sub Branch           Anzac Memorial

Our Shed has offered to maintain the Anzac Memorial at Beresfield. It has been neglected over the years and deserves to be maintained in a proper manner.

Meetings with Newcastle City Council have resulted in the overgrown shrubs and weeds being removed.

The Vietnams War Veterans have kindly donated a refurbished cannon and arranged for it to be installed on a concrete slab.

The gardens have been started and looking a bit barren at the moment  but there is still a way to go and with the help of local businesses we hope to be able to present a new look Memorial Garden by Anzac Day 2016.

With the help of Parkers Landscape Supplies, Thornton and Heritage Gardens Nursery, Ashtonfield we hope to restore the garden into something to be proud of.

Some plants were added but it was decided that a more pleasing outlook would be achieved if they were rearranged.

This may result in additional plants being purchased but in the end, it will be worthwhile.

Well, the garden has been finished. There is no doubt that when a community project like this is taken on it gives a real pleasurable feeling to see the end product. With the support of Maitland RSL Sub Branch, we will continue to maintain the garden in memory of those who made the supreme sacrifice for their country.
